I have included a link below that will show some patents, but watch for dates as some of them patented even into the mid 30's were applied for in the 20's and approved later. I believe Colt entered the electrical market in the 30’s and 40’s. I haven’t come across any in residential inspections but I have seen some like you show, as well as knife switches marked “Colt NOARK” in older commercial buildings.

They allow us to place the connector connected to at least 18" or more of NM-b (90C) and then to the NM (60C) in a concealed wall on the switch loop without a box. Very handy when rewiring in an older existing building.
